The Met Gala, fashion’s most exclusive night, returns to New York City this Monday with a bold, history-rich focus: menswear and Black style. Tickets cost a staggering $75,000, but that hasn’t stopped the world’s biggest stars from clamoring for a spot on the red carpet.
This year’s gala theme — “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” — aligns with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition of the same name. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s acclaimed book Slaves to Fashion, the event explores Black dandyism and the evolution of Black diasporic identity through fashion.
With the dress code titled “Tailored for You”, guests are expected to deliver custom takes on classic suiting — a nod to the exhibit’s deep dive into centuries of sartorial expression. From the 18th century to today, Black style has defined elegance, rebellion, and artistry in menswear.
Usher, Pharrell Williams, Simone Biles, and Lewis Hamilton are among the evening’s co-chairs and committee members. Usher called the theme “timely,” emphasizing its cultural weight and celebratory intenExpect dazzling interpretations of tailoring, powerful homages to Black culture, and a red carpet that redefines what menswear means — not just for men, but for everyone.
